Hunt for Treasure This Summer with Farmington Community Chest
What if a simple summer afternoon could turn into a real-life treasure hunt?

This July, Farmington Community Chest is inviting local families to embark on a summer-long adventure filled with clues, exploration, and hidden treasure. Beginning Monday, July 13, the Farmington Community Chest Summer Treasure Hunt will transform ordinary outings into exciting opportunities for discovery as families search for a real treasure chest hidden somewhere in town each week.
Designed for children and families of all ages, the free community program encourages participants to get outside, explore Farmington, and connect with the many businesses, nonprofits, parks, cultural organizations, and community spaces that make our town special.
Each Monday throughout the summer, a treasure chest will appear at a new location somewhere in Farmington. Throughout the week, clues will be shared on social media, challenging young treasure hunters and their families to follow the trail and uncover the chest before it moves on to its next destination.
Along the way, participants will have the chance to earn weekly prizes, collect entries toward an end-of-summer grand prize drawing, and discover new places throughout town they may never have visited before.
For Farmington Community Chest, the treasure hunt is about more than prizes.
“This is really about making simple, memorable summer experiences for families,” said Chris Andrews, President of the Farmington Community Chest. “We wanted to create something that feels like the summers of the past and what’s better than kids searching for treasure, families exploring town, and the community coming together around something fun and a little bit magical?”
While the Summer Treasure Hunt is a new initiative, it reflects the same mission that has guided Farmington Community Chest for nearly a century. Since 1931, the volunteer-led organization has invested in programs and partnerships that strengthen the health, educational opportunities, and quality of life of Farmington residents. From supporting local food assistance and youth programs to funding scholarships, camperships, and community initiatives, the organization works to ensure that Farmington remains a vibrant place for people of all ages.
“We often think about community support in terms of essential services, and those programs remain incredibly important,” Andrews said. “But strong communities are also built through connection, shared experiences, and opportunities for families to spend meaningful time together. The Summer Treasure Hunt is another way for us to invest in the well-being of local families while celebrating everything that makes Farmington special.”
Participating locations will include a variety of community organizations, businesses, and public spaces throughout town, giving families an opportunity to discover new destinations while enjoying a little friendly competition along the way. Participation is free, and families can join at any time throughout the summer.
